    • A common misconception is that the energy of the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes in a bounded domain will grow indefinitely, as more and more energy piles up at the largest scale. Boundedness of the energy (for a bounded energy injection rate e) follows immediately on applying the Poincaré inequality to Eq. (5); this yields a dissipative first-order differential equation that provides an upper bound on the energy (cf. Ref. [27]).
