Roughly speaking, inelastic events occur where the saturation is high, i.e., in the first atomic layers. Deeper inside the medium, where saturation is low, elastic events dominate. Thus, varying the coherent transmission in the multiple-scattering regime should not sensitively modify the inelastic mechanisms at work (and in turn the enhancement factor), at least in the conditions of the experiment.
