Dual ultraslow waves have been proposed in [7,8] in the context of Kerr nonlinearity. The former relies on two multistate species whereas the latter requires a single-specie medium of six states.

note
-
Although high conversion efficiency can be achieved with ultraslow group velocities, it can also be achieved with fast waves depending on the conditions. In the optically thin medium, the fast-wave scheme can achieve a better conversion efficiency than the slow-wave scheme. In the optically think medium, however, the slow-wave scheme may offer a much better conversion efficiency in some nonlinear processes depending on the excitation schemes.

note
-
The decay rates used in the Schrödinger picture are, in general, a combination of population and coherence decay rates used in density matrix formalism. The conditions used in the present study ensure the equivalence between Schrödinger wave function formalism and more rigorous density matrix formulism. By constructing density matrix elements using Schrödinger wave function, one obtains the relations between decay rates in two different formulisms.
