The net foreign debt equals the cumulative sum of the current accounts deficits. If we assume that the U.S. current account deficit remains at 6 percent of GDP, the U.S. nominal GDP growth rate continues at 5 percent a year, and there is no change in the exchange rate, then theoretically the U.S. net foreign debt to GDP ratio will keep rising up to 120 percent.
