    • The calculations of Refs.
    • The calculations of Refs. 3, 6, and 8 assumed a proton at normal incidence with effects of channeling and changes in projectile charge state neglected. Sigmund’s kinetic theory of stopping (see Ref. 20) is used, with the stationary target stopping number required therein obtained from the Bethe theory, in an explicitly orbital-dependent formulation. The orbital local plasma approximation (see Ref. 21) was used; the local density approximation to DFT was the source of all required inputs.
