It is worth noting that the ferroelectric transition temperature for (Formula presented) [see M. E. Lines and A. M. Glass, Principles and Applications of Ferroelectrics and Related Materials (Clarendon Press, Oxford, 1977)], is among the highest ones reported for any ferroelectric. This makes such compounds interesting candidates for ferroelectric data storage devices.

Note that although Nb (Formula presented) or Nb (Formula presented) NEXAFS could, in principle, provide direct information on the unoccupied Nb (Formula presented) DOS at (Formula presented) one would gain very little as the associated core-hole lifetime broadenings are 1.7 and 2.1 eV, respectively, in effect washing out any details of the electronic structure.
