One-year follow-up of two exercise interventions for the management of patients with ankylosing spondylitis: a randomized controlled trial. Am J Phys Med Rehabil 2006; 85:559-567. A good but small study provided long-term follow-up data from a single-blinded, randomized clinical trial and used validated outcome measures. It demonstrated that an experimental program of specific strengthening and flexibility exercises was associated with sustained improvements in mobility and function.
