A discussion of the role of broken Galilean and U(1) gauge invariance in classical and quantum fluids can be found in A. M. J. Schakel, e-print cond-mat/9805152. As explained by Schakel, another consequence of broken Galilean invariance is the existence of sound waves, which are the Goldstone modes.

In this work we shall assume that the trapping potential may be anisotropic, with aω∥≥ω⊥ where ω∥ is the trap frequency along the rotation axis Z and ω⊥ the trap frequency perpendicular to Z.
