1. A discussion of the role of broken Galilean and U(1) gauge invariance in classical and quantum fluids can be found in A. M. J. Schakel, e-print cond-mat/9805152. As explained by Schakel, another consequence of broken Galilean invariance is the existence of sound waves, which are the Goldstone modes.
