The morphology of the varicose short saphenous system
-
This excellent large series reports important information for phlebologists. I do, however, have some minor reservations regarding methodology. As presented, there are many variables in the group of patients studied, including the following: in some patients the great saphenous vein was treated, and in others it was not; in some patients ambulatory phlebectomy was employed, and in others not; and in some patients the vein of Giacomini or the thigh extension of the small saphenous vein were treated, and in others not. While such treatment is certainly efficient for patients, for scientific investigation it might be best to limit as many variables as possible to attain substantial conclusions. It should also be noted that the physicians who performed the procedures also performed the follow-up duplex examinations.
