    • In the case of Pd it should be noted that experimental identification of core level disorder broadening is hindered by an additional factor: a large asymmetry in the core XPS spectra. This effect, attributable to low energy many-body excitations, varies with the local density of states at the Fermi level and hence with both local and global alloy composition.
