    • A Rowland circle is the locus of points on a radius R, on which radiation emerging from a point on the circle and reflected by a concave mirror of radius 2R, tangent to the circle at a point elsewhere on the circle, comes to a focus at a point on the opposite side of the circle. In the case of a Bragg reflecting mirror, the crystal planes must lie on the larger circle. The sum of the lengths of paths before and after reflection varies according to the relative positions of the source point and the center of the reflecting surface.
