In this retrospective study, the authors reviewed the records of 223 adult BMT recipients who underwent bronchoscopy over a 4-year period. Eighty-seven (39%) patients had alveolar hemorrhage, 34 associated with infection and 53 without infection. The 6-month survival rate of patients with alveolar hemorrhage was 38%. The patients with infection had worse outcomes compared with patients without infection.
