A controlled-release microchip
-
This paper describes the fabrication of implantable microchips containing multiple drug reservoirs. It is possible to programme the microchip in such a way that individual reservoirs can be opened at well-defined time points, thus allowing complicated drug release patterns to be generated on request

The role of metal nanoparticles in remote release of encapsulated materials
-
This paper describes the fabrication of hollow polyelectrolyte capsules containing gold nanoparticles in their shell. As the gold nanoparticles can absorb laser light, it is possible to remotely activate the capsules inducing the release of encapsulated material

Self-rupturing microcapsules
-
In this paper, it is shown that the swelling pressure of a degrading microgel can rupture a surrounding membrane, leading to the release of encapsulated material. By tailoring the degradation rate of the microgels, it should in theory be possible to determine the explosion time of the microcapsules
