The diameter of PS/2-3 was smaller than that of PS/1. The pyrenes 1-3 are hydrophobic and could work as a hydrophobe in miniemulsion polymerization. In particular, relatively large amount of 1 might result in the larger diameter.

The degassing by freeze-pump-thaw cycle is not available for emulsions and the careful nitrogen bubbling could not reject oxygen completely from the emulsions.
