The identification of the spicule-less sponge genus was not straight-forward. It seems to be closest to Fascaplysinopsis (Demospongiae, order Dictyoceratid, family Thorectidae), a genus described thus far only from Australia and Indonesia.

Although transannular NOEs were observed, the high molecule flexibility avoided conclusions regarding the chiral centers of the molecule. More material will have to be gained for attempting derivatization of 1, which thus far has failed to give crystals. All three new compounds are unstable, especially under acidic or basic conditions. In the case of 1 and 2, unstability, most likely, is due to the oxohexa-2,4-dienoate moiety that readily isomerizes
