Only subjects in the heat-inactivated group were found to have developed diarrhea days to weeks after the introduction of formula.

Infect Immun 2002, 70:2057-2064. This in vitro study showed that lipoteichoic acid may have lipopolysaccharide- antagonizing activity for interleukin-8 secretion from an intestinal cell line. Remarks regarding the effect of lipoteichoic acid on peripheral mononuclear cells reveal that cell source is crucial for interpretation of results.
