    • As the SHG signals from these 8CB monolayers are several times larger than those from the PI surfaces, most of the SHG signal is considered to come from the 8CB molecules. For quantitative determination of the orientation of LC molecules, the SHG signals from the PI surface should be subtracted from these data. See, for example, M. Oh-e, S. C. Hong and Y. R. Shen, J.
