12. Initially, the use of bis(pinacolato)diboron under palladium catalysis failed to convert bromide 7 to its corresponding boronate ester. However, when ethylmagnesium bromide, tert-butyllithium and trimethylborate were used at -78 °C, the corresponding boronic acid was obtained after an aqueous workup.
