    • This is the energy cost required to create a quasi-free electron state inside bulk 4He. There is however another possible state where the electron becomes localized inside a cavity, whose energy cost is lower (∼0.22 eV).32 As a consequence, one should in principle consider the possibility of more complex paths in the multi-dimensional energy surface along which the energy barrier felt by the electron could be lower than 1 eV.
