3. Garry Trudeau's 'Doonesbury' Sunday strip for 3 July 2005, lampooning bloggers, suggests that if what they have to say possessed any value, someone would be willing to pay them for it. Asks one character, 'Isn't blogging basically for angry, semi-employed losers who are too untalented or too lazy to get real jobs in journalism?' The sarcasm works less well if one substitutes 'scholars' for 'losers' and 'the academy' for 'journalism.'
