4. The pH value of the solution was adjusted with an aqueous solution of 5 N NaOH and 5 N HCL. To measure the fluorescence intensity, 10 μL of ruthenium complex 7b (10 mM) was added into a 2 mL of phosphate solution at different pH valued in a cuvette (4 mL). After measuring the fluorescence response of the ruthenium complex solution with a fluorescence spectrophotometer (F-45000, Hitachi, Japan), the pH was measured with a pH meter (Metrohm Co., Switzerland).
