BJU Int 2006; 97:85-89. This randomized controlled trial compared HoLEP, TURP and TUVRP, concluding that HoLEP is at least as effective as TURP or TUVRP, with significantly lower morbidity.
18. Naspro R, Suardi N, Salonia A, et al. Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate versus open prostatectomy for prostates >70 g: 24-months follow-up. Eur Urol 2006; 50:563-568. This randomized controlled study conducted in men with large prostates compared the efficacy and safety of HoLEP to open prostatectomy. The micturition outcome following HoLEP is equivalent to that obtained from open surgery. HoLEP was superior to open surgery in perioperative and postoperative morbidity.
