    • The band-gap calculated in the widely used local-density approximation as published in the first papers on BN nanotubes [15] is about 4.5 eV. Only for very small nanotubes, the gap can have smaller values. Recent calculations of the quasi-particle band-structure [6, 7] demonstrate that the gap is larger than 6 eV
