    • The only difference that exists between the two excitation spectra is related to the greater bandwidth of the high temperature profile. This bandwidth difference can be rationalized in terms of the population of higher phonon states, occurring upon increasing temperature which manifests itself in strongly electron-phonon coupled systems, as a broadening of the electronic absorption/excitation profile.

    • Differences in the magnitudes of the observed radiative lifetimes of aromatic hydrocarbon molecules are related to the variation of the rate of nonradiative transitions connecting the emitting triplet level [formula omitted] to the vibrational levels of the ground singlet state [formula omitted] It has been proposed (Refs. 9–11) that isotopic differences in the nonradiative rates of relaxation are related to the greater vibrational overlap possible between the donating triplet and accepting singlet modes in the case of perprotonated molecules than in the case of perdeuterated molecules. For the case of the molecular emissions being described for these aromatic molecules, it is the internal high frequency modes that mediate in the radiationless transitions (Ref. 10) so that in the energy region of the emitting triplet state, significant differences still exist between the vibrational modes of the perprotonated and perdeuterated molecules.
