16. In the scholarship survey, sabbatical leave was defined as "leave to conduct a specific pre-approved research project with the expectation of a publication or other research outcome." Study leave was defined as "leave for the purpose of taking a course, upgrading qualifications, etc." Annual research leave was defined as "a specific number of days per year of paid leave for general self-directed research."
