    • This scaling law for the injection angle agrees with predictions from PIC simulations of similar laser pulses interacting with a sharp density gradient. It was shown that the initial electron divergence is due to the excitation of a thin layer with large static magnetic fields; see J. C. Adam, A. Héron, and G. Laval, Phys. Rev. Lett. 97, 205006 2006

    • Such two-temperature distributions have been measured using an external diagnostic, an electron spectrometer a few tens of centimeters away from the targets (Ref. 55); therefore limited to the electrons with enough energy to escape the intense space charge field created at the rear of the targets. Similar two-temperature distributions were reported from, other targets such as extremely thin foils (Ref. 56) or water droplets (Ref. 57).
