The Danish Refugee Council became a center of controversy in February 2006, when Ramzan Kadyrov ordered it out as a response to the Muhammed cartoon row. The situation was not helped by the Ichkeria leadership's statement of support for the DRC. The affair was subsequently ended by the intervention of Dmitry Kozak, who questioned the legality of the ban Kadyrov had imposed.
