1. The English translation is: "To lovers the landscape appears in a new light in spring." It is a line from the film Kuhle Wampe which was produced in 1931 or 1932. The text is by Bertolt Brecht (1898 - 1956) and the music by Ernst Busch (1900 - 1980). The film reflects difficulties associated with unemployment in those years. It was staged at a tent site 'Kuhle Wampe' which had been established in 1913 on the periphery of Berlin. In 1930 there were 93 pitched tents on the site that was inhabited by 300 people. The .lm concerns a family of four, where only the grown-up daughter has a job, is evicted from their city apartment because they could no longer pay the rent. In spite of desperate efforts the grown-up son is unable to find a job and after serious reproaches from his father decided to jump out of the window. "One unemployed less" is the headline for the first part of this film. An acquaintance of the daughter suggests the rest of the family join him in his tent at Kuhle Wampe. As no alternative materializes they move to the 'green'. This 'green' at the periphery of the city, on the shore of a lake surrounded by fields and forests, is shown in the film in several long sequences without people. It is here where the daughter falls in love with the acquaintance, and it is in this context the quoted sentence is spoken.
