    • Weak pairwise correlations imply strongly correlated network states in a neural population
    • The authors recorded from ganglion cell networks in tiger salamander and guinea pig retina and showed that a maximum entropy model in which all pairs of neurons interact could account for multineuronal firing patterns. They extrapolated this model to infer that error correction dominates network behavior during stimulation by natural scenes. See main text for a discussion of concerns about this conclusion.
