Although highly subjective and economistic, the World Bank's definition of emerging markets or middle-income countries is based on a country's Gross National Income (GNI) per capita equivalent to more than $756 but less than $9265 in 1999. Middle-income countries are further divided into uppermiddle income countries (eg Turkey, Malaysia, Chile) and lower-middle income countries (eg the Philippines, Nicaragua, Namibia).
