By definition, the two-centered hydrogen bond contains only one acceptor atom attached to the hydrogen atom, whereas there are two acceptor atoms attached to one hydrogen atom in a three-centered hydrogen bond. These three-centered hydrogen bonds can be either symmetric - both acceptor atom in comparable distance from the hydrogen atom - or asymmetric. In the asymmetric three-centered hydrogen bonds, there are major and minor components. The Major component futures shorter H⋯acceptor distance than the minor component.
