AJPIAS 0002-9505 68, 723 (2000)], showed that in four dimensions the only two-tensor derivable from the metric tensor and its first two partial derivatives which has zero covariant divergence (and hence derives conservation laws) is Gαβ+λgαβ, where Gαβ is the Einstein tensor, gαβ the metric tensor, and λ a constant, a fundamental constant of nature. This does not mean that λ=Λ (the observed cosmological constant). Indeed, the cosmological constant problem may be viewed as the explanation for the difference between λ and Λ should there be any. 10.1119/1.19534
