Limiting values to this statement are: Too small a sample (ie sub μl amounts) may render the platinum signal below detection limit, too large a sample (> 10 μl on a hydrophilic reflector) may make the dried sample large compared with the sample-detector distance in the spectrometer. This leads to a large range in the Compton scattering angle and results in a significant change in the shape of the peak that is being used for quantification with possible concentration errors. Consistently good results are obtained using the same amount of plasma for samples and standards.
