In the presence of zero-field splitting (ZFS) the anisotropic terms D(Sz2, 1/3Ŝ2, E(Ŝ x2, Ŝy2) would have to be added to the exchange Hamiltonian. For oligoradicals derived from trovacene units ZFS is not included, as dipolar contributions are negligible because of the large interspin distance (6.4 ± 0.4 Å) and spin-orbit coupling is ineffective due to the ground state A1 of trovacene. Note the small g anisotropy Δ∥⊥1, ≈ 0.03
