Automated steps to create a single record could include: • add 006 field to all records in the batch; • change 008/23 (Form) from 'blank' to 's'; • insert $h [electronic resource] into the 245 of a record that does not have $h (or overwrite $h [microform] if present; • alter it by adding a prefix or suffix so that it won't conflict with another record with the same OCLC number but can be recognized as being related to that record in other contexts such as union catalog display; • add 710 for provider or a local field such as 793 for title of the e-resource package. An alternative or additional technique could be to cite a short form of the provider/package title in the 856. (The SCP has established an authority file of package names at http://www.cdlib.org/inside/projects/ scp/eresourcestracking.html); • add local fields, e.g., 049, 9xx.
