5cell/mL. The same inoculum was added to drug-free medium as a growth control. The test tubes were incubated in a water bath at 30 °C. Next, 100 μL of samples was taken from each tube at known time intervals, centrifuged, and washed three times with fresh Mueller-Hinton broth. After vortexed vigorously for 10 s, the suspension was suitably diluted and spread onto Mueller-Hinton agar plates. The plates were incubated at 30 °C for 24 h and colonies were counted. Each number of viable cells was determined from three-independent experiments performed in triplicate.

After incubation, tubes were centrifuged at 2000g for 10 min. The supernants were transferred into 96-well polystyrene plates (Costar 3590, incorporated) and the optical density was measured at 540 nm using MTP120 microplate reader (Colona Electric, Japan). The values for 0% and 100% lysis were determined by incubating erythrocytes with PBS, and 0.1% (v/v) Triton X-100 (Amresco 0694), respectively. Assays were carried out in triplicate and the results were confirmed in three-independent experiments.
