Dieter Schott was appointed professor in modern history with a focus on "urban and environmental history" by the Technical University of Darmstadt, and Massard-Guilbaud, whose work has always dealt with cities, was selected to occupy the first chair in France specifically devoted to environmental history, at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris.
