Solomon Mamaloni had survived a full term as Prime Minister from 1989-1993, but his government did not. In 1990, Mamaloni abandoned his People's Alliance Party, and forged a new coalition with former opposition members. The 1984 United Party government also survived a full term, but its initial Prime Minister, Sir Peter Kenilorea, was forced to resign in 1986.
