In this interventional randomized prospective study, the authors compared the recurrence rates and complications in four treatment groups, namely MMC (0.2 mg/ml) alone, conjunctival autograft alone, combined MMC (0.2 mg/ml) and conjunctival autograft, as well as sodiumchloride 0.9%alone. The group treated with combined conjunctival autograft and MMC had the lowest rate of recurrence.

Six months after surgery, amniotic membrane transplant is shown to have a higher recurrence rate than conjunctival autograft.
