This preliminary information from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia assesses neurodevelopmental outcome in a cohort of patients who have undergone fetal repair of their myelomeningocele. This is the first such study to provide an early assessment of outcome but underscores the need for longer-term follow-up data.

Ultrasonography has been the mainstay in assessing prenatal issues. The MRI study provides additional information that may provide further insights following in-utero repair of myelomeningocele. These radiographic findings then will also need to be correlated with functional outcome data.
