Girls are at higher risk of depression than boys. These authors failed to show an advantage in an intervention run for girls only compared with that run in a group for girls and boys.

J Child Psychol Psychiatry 2006; 47:1254-1262. This is the first study of a preventive intervention based purely on interpersonal therapy. It is a small study with promising results. Time will tell whether this approach will be more robust when rolled out in larger effectiveness trials.
