1. Most commonly known by their name in Russian vory-v-zakone, in Georgian this is rendered ramkiani qurdebi. The literal translation into English as 'thieves-in-law' is quite confusing to the uninitiated reader. 'Law here' refers to a code followed, as opposed to some legalistic meaning of the word. A better phrase might be 'thieves-professing-the-code'.
