    • Within the USA and Australia, relationship banking is generally conducted in this manner. A customer link is established and then used to market other products and services at a profit. In continental Europe (especially Germany), the business/banking relationship has traditionally been more of a long-term partnership. Not only have banks been able to hold substantial equity investments in business firms, there has been an expectation that profit (or cost of service) will not be the primary factor on which the relationship is based. This too is changing as the world becomes more integrated
