In case of 1-Si only the 11 reflection could be observed along with the 0k reflections, thus the angle γ of the oblique lattice could not be calculated from the d values of the reflections (for the calculation of the three lattice parameters a, b, and γ three linearly independent reflections are necessary). Instead it has been determined by direct measurement on the pattern to γ = 97°. The indexing has been done in analogy to the patterns of 2-Si, which shows a sufficient number of reflections for a unique assignment of the indices

In addition, the increased polarity of the CN groups with respect to Cl can provide a closer packing of the aromatic cores (improved π-π interactions), though this group has a larger size. The enhanced polarity can also reinforce the segregation of the aromatic cores from the aliphatic chains and this can sharpen the interfaces, so that the steric effects of the silyl groups become more important A preferred conformational molecular chirality in the chiral layers, due to diastereomeric interactions between layer chirality and molecular conformational chirality, could also be responsible for the distortion of a bicontinuous cubic organization, see:
