Discourse Ethics and Civil Society
-
David Rasmussen (ed.) “Civil Society” is, admittedly, not easy to define. My use is a common one that is also shared by such people as Axel Honneth, Jürgen Habermas, Thomas McCarthy, and Jean Cohen who usefully define it as a term that “calls to mind rights, privacy, property, publicity, free speech, association, and equality before the law” and which is differentiated from the state and the market economy. See Cambridge, Mass., MIT
