    • It is worth contrasting Bayley's experience with that of David Johnson who, despite being able to speak Japanese, encountered considerable resistance when attempting to gain access to the public prosecutor's office in Kobe: It took four months of forbearance to 'get in' the Kobe office. Throughout the research in Kobe, getting close to prosecutors was my methodological migraine, an intense headache which recurred so frequently that even when I did not feel it I suffered from the knowledge that it would soon return
