Neglecting the magnetic dipole contribution one obtains for the spin-orbit ratios: (〈Sz〉)Fe ∼ 3/2 (L3-2L2)/2(L3+ L2) and 〈S2〉/〈L 2〉)Gd ∼ 3/2 (M5- 3/2M4)/3 M5+M4, L2,3 and M4.5 represent the XMCD areas at the corresponding absoiption edges, and were directly computed from the x-ray absorption spectra. No background subtraction and scaling for the number of valence holes were performed because only relative transient changes were computed
