    • Titration samples were prepared with compound 1, metal percblorate salts, CAPS (3-cyclohexylamino-1-propanesulfonic acid) buffer prepared in doubly deionized water and adjusted to pH 10.5 (and methanol for methanolic titrations). Final concentration of compound 1 was 25 μM. Final concentration of buffer was 0.05 M. Plastic test tubes were used to avoid metal leachate from glass. Fluorescence spectra were obtained on a Perkin Elmer LS50B Luminescence Spectrometer. Excitation wavelength was set to 335 nm and both excitation and emission slit widths were set to 3 nm.
