    • For more than a century, very small insoluble nondiffusible particles as single large molecules or masses of smaller molecules that remain in suspension in a medium of a different matter are called colloidal particles. These particles range from 0.1 micrometer (100 nanometer) down to molecular sizes. Due to the very peculiar physical interactions of particles in this invisible range, a large body of scientific literature exists on colloids. Recent popularization of nanotechnology has introduced "nano" as a new adjective synonymous with and perhaps more descriptive than "colloidal".
