Because Caterpillar launched its transformation efforts before the term “Lean Six Sigma” came into common use, it continues to refer to it as “Six Sigma.” Note, too, that Caterpillar uses the form “Six Sigma,” which we have adhered to when describing Caterpillar's efforts in this area, whereas Motorola and most others use “Six Sigma,” as have we when describing such efforts beyond Caterpillar.
